Not only is this realistically inaccurate but it is also detrimental to game play. What I mean in by Snowball Effect is in the original RTW, when one faction would capture another's province, the occupying force could immediately start cranking out new units and often times elite units that would normally take years to develop early in the game. There project Europa Barbarorum(EB) is the product of two years of research, implementation, and testing.
So a group of avid fans that believed that Fun and Realism could work hand in hand began work on an all encompassing mod that would more realistically portray the ancient world and would also enhance game play. Fun, but it seems that Creative Assembly and Activision saw little value in making the game any more historically accurate than let's say Hollywood. Obviously it was very polished and innovative strategy game that used the term historical strategy game rather loosely. My first impression of Rome Total War(RTW) when it came out two years ago was one of awe. The game is making it's way to the bargain bin as it drops below a picture of “Old Hickory” so it may be tempting to someone on a budget or has an older rig or maybe just took a pass on it the first go around.
I know the game has been out for about two years and there is a shiny new Medieval Total WAR 2 on the horizon.
